PFAS Fate and Transport Modeling

Picture
PFAS, or per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), are a large group of human-made chemicals that have been used in various industrial and consumer products since the 1940s. These substances are known for their resistance to heat, water, and oil, making them useful in a wide range of applications such as non-stick cookware (e.g., Teflon), water-repellent clothing and fabrics, firefighting foams, food packaging materials, and stain-resistant carpets and upholstery. PFAS are often referred to as "forever chemicals" because of their strong carbon-fluorine bonds, which make them extremely persistent in the environment and resistant to degradation. This persistence raises environmental and health concerns as they can accumulate over time in water, soil, wildlife, and humans. Exposure to certain PFAS compounds has been linked to various adverse health effects, including developmental effects in fetuses and infants, immune system suppression, liver damage, thyroid disorders, and an increased risk of certain cancers. Due to these concerns, there is ongoing research and regulation efforts to manage and reduce PFAS contamination in the environment.

Dynamic Solutions LLC specializes in providing comprehensive environmental modeling services, including surface water fate and transport modeling of PFAS using advanced software such as EFDC, MIKE, AQUATOX, WASP, and MODFLOW. Dynamic Solutions LLC's team of experienced modelers utilizes state-of-the-art tools to simulate the behavior of PFAS in surface water environments, providing valuable insights for environmental management and decision-making. By accurately assessing the fate and transport of PFAS, Dynamic Solutions LLC helps clients understand the distribution, persistence, and potential impacts of PFAS contamination in surface water bodies. With our expertise, we assist clients in developing effective strategies to mitigate the risks associated with PFAS contamination, safeguarding both environmental and public health.
